余っているデスクトップPCにVMware ESXiをインストールしようと思ったのですが、NICが対応していなかったので、VMware Server 2をインストールしてみることにしました。


なので、まずはホストOSのインストールから始めました。
ホストOSは最近使い慣れているUbuntu(Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server)にしました。

VMwareインストールの前に、必要そうなものをインストールしておきます。
root@dev1:~# aptitude install make
root@dev1:~# aptitude install gcc
root@dev1:~# aptitude install linux-headers-`uname -r`

ホストOSが用意できたらば、VMware Server 2 for Linuxをダウンロード(要会員登録)してインストールします。 今回はTAR imageを利用しました。
ダウンロードしたアーカイブを展開すると、Perlで書かれたインストーラーがあるので実行します。
管理者の追加と、シリアルナンバーの入力以外は、デフォルト値のままにしました。
